Couldn't agree more. In India, the slap has always held a 'place of honour' as a quick, simple, effective punishment and deterrent, and not just with kids.

It is regrettable that under misguided Western laws, our country is losing this effective disciplinary measure.

We must bring it back.

  Alok Tholiya I hv never even slapped once my children who r aged 30 years. The sanskaar at home, at good schools like Arya Vidya mandir , jainism which that teaches that v respect the elders and young ones the same way, respect women and sr. citizens and respect even poor and weak ( includes dalits/ minority). If v respect them then v understand them. When v understand them then v get ways to handle them with care. But when v r egoist, superfluous, v think might is right then our hardcore pampered says I am superior, my status is high, I m rich and mighty, I am VIP , and under such egoist nature person feels it is right to assault and forget children but they even assault women, poor, staff, dalits, sr. citizens. Such ppl u can easily find in family members specially son's of Neta's , top bureaucrats, filthy rich who can't digest others unless sort of enslaved ( like such ppl want wife , servants as much dominated as possible and punish as much as they can to satisfy their feelings of superiority) . There is no mardangi in beating a child, a wife, a dalit or a sr. citizens. That is having heart of stone. Shun the hidden and ceased devil in u. Start using ur heart then ur head on ego trip. I am here not saying there r others who r all saints. No there r those who r devilish but assault is not the first choice or mantra. Love all and find ways to improvise others not by slap but by peaceful means available like elders, mediation, counseling, courts, taking them to spiritual lectures giving them awakening/ attempting to opening their eyes ..........Alok
